Aspirational entrepreneur profile
As a newcomer from Mexico, I anticipate facing many challenges starting my specialty food business. I hope the mentorship program could connect me with experienced entrepreneurs who could guide me through every step of the journey.

I plan to come to Canada from Mexico City in 2024, bringing with me a passion for authentic Mexican cuisine and a dream to introduce Canadians to the rich culinary traditions beyond the typical Tex-Mex fare they might be familiar with.
I expect my biggest hurdles will be understanding Canadian food regulations, sourcing authentic ingredients while meeting local standards, and adapting traditional recipes to Canadian tastes without losing authenticity. I'm also concerned about securing a location and navigating the commercial lease process in Toronto's competitive market.
I hope WilGlobo's food business startup guide could be my bible during the early stages. Their legal resources could help me understand food safety regulations, and their network could connect me with suppliers who can source authentic ingredients. The business plan workshop could help me refine my concept to appeal to the Canadian market while staying true to my culinary heritage.
My vision is for Culinary Connections to operate two locations in Toronto, employing fellow newcomers. I hope to build partnerships with local grocery chains that would carry our prepared foods and sauces. I'd like to create additional revenue streams through cooking classes and catering services, and dream of being featured in Toronto Life magazine as one of the city's best authentic Mexican eateries.
I believe adapting to a new market doesn't mean compromising your vision. Finding the balance between authenticity and accessibility will be key. Listening to customer feedback while staying true to core values is important. Also, leveraging your unique perspective as a newcomer could be an advantage rather than a disadvantage—it's something that sets you apart in the market.
I hope the mentorship program could be a game-changer for me. Having a mentor who is a successful restaurateur who immigrated themselves would provide practical advice that only someone with similar experiences could offer.
